Senior Project Managers support clients to achieve successful project delivery, leading projects integrated with the client team, and serve as outsourced consultancy teams across a range of projects from medium-scale renewal contracts to complex transformational programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership for the successful delivery of projects/programmes, giving leadership and direction to the team, and effectively communicating with all parties, identifying and managing risks, planning and progress monitoring, and implementing appropriate project controls.
  • Build strong and effective relationships with clients through active engagement to understand their needs, operating as a trusted advisor to help achieve their objectives.
  • Work with and manage other WSP teams in a multidisciplinary project/programme environment.
  • Manage supply chain suppliers, including sub-consultants and contractors, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
  • Optimise the resource balance across the project/programme, ensuring all deliverables and milestones are achieved on time and to the right quality.
  • Monitor and report project/programme finances, providing clear and productive reporting both within the business and to the client.
  • Work with a range of stakeholders to identify solutions, share best practice, and drive the best outcomes for your projects and other projects across the programme.
  • Act as a role model and mentor for other project management staff, while actively contributing to development and knowledge sharing within the Portfolio, Programme, and Project Management (P3M) community of practice.
  • Champion excellent health and safety practice and lead project management commissions to achieve safe, sustainable, and efficient outcomes that meet agreed objectives.

What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate

  • Proven experience of project management at practitioner level across multiple projects simultaneously with complex reporting structures.
  • Proven experience in managing both project delivery and commercial performance, ensuring projects are completed on time, within scope, and on budget while optimising financial outcomes.
  • Experience leading or working as part of a high-performing team, with the ability to influence and motivate others of varying experience and skill levels.
  • Experience as a client, consultant, or contractor in public and/or private sector environments delivering complex projects/programmes.
  • Understanding and practical experience of delivering projects/programmes within a structured project control process.
  • Hold a relevant project management qualification (e.g., APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ)).
  • Robust project management skills with a track record of successful delivery, ideally within transport, public sector, or high-risk environments.
  • Capability in managing proposals and bids, including comprehensive bid planning, efficient resource coordination, and high-quality proposal writing.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage complex matrix environments, coordinating and collaborating with multiple subject matter experts and stakeholders across functions to ensure alignment.
  • Excellent relationship management skills with proven experience in building rapport and trust with colleagues, clients, and key stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, able to influence and engender commitment to deliver on purpose and engage people.
  • Able to challenge constructively, probe, and offer alternative perspectives while comfortably presenting ideas and views.
  • A proven ability to work collaboratively in real and virtual environments, sharing information and engaging the right people to make decisions effectively and timely.
  • Work with clients to help them with their challenges (client-driven/cross-selling) to deliver their services in a better environment.
