As an Assistant Ecologist you will join our growing Nature Services Team and work on engaging projects within a supportive and varied team of technical experts. We offer flexible working arrangements to help you find a working pattern that suits you.
Responsibilities
- Assist with and undertake ecology surveys including macroinvertebrate sampling, electric fishing and macrophytes.
- Assist with and prepare tenders for a range of schemes, and suites of habitat, botanical and protected species surveys.
- Contribute to ecological deliverables such as Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Water Framework Directive assessments (WFDa), Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), biodiversity chapters of EIAs, and Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA).
Qualifications
- Appropriate academic qualification in Ecology or a related discipline.
- Qualifying Member status with CIEEM (or eligibility for this).
- Demonstrable experience in at least one type of freshwater aquatic survey (macroinvertebrates, fish, macrophytes and algae) and knowledge of methods for surveying other groups.
- Experience gained in a consultancy environment preferred but voluntary work considered.
- Enthusiastic and energetic outlook with willingness to learn.
- Appreciation of relevant legislation covering freshwater fish, macroinvertebrates and macrophytes.
- Full UK valid driving licence.
- Self‑confidence, motivation, good communication skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience in ecological consultancy with development of core field and reporting skills.
