WSP’s Nature Services team is a diverse group of ecologists combining generalists and specialist bat leads. We deliver a wide range of challenging projects across the UK, focusing on enabling the energy transition and infrastructure upgrades. We are expanding our licensed bat survey team in Scotland, offering flexibility for individuals to develop as well-rounded generalists or bat specialists.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical advice, plan, and oversee bat surveys across diverse schemes, mainly linked to decarbonisation efforts.
- Act as bat lead on projects ranging from onshore wind farms to linear schemes such as hydrogen pipelines, road dualling, and energy infrastructure upgrades.
- Oversee generic and specialist survey work.
- Prepare tenders for a variety of schemes within our portfolio.
- Contribute deliverables including Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), Biodiversity chapters of EIAs, Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRAs), and licence applications.
- Maintain client liaison and manage projects.
- Mentor and train the wider team.
- Support innovative ways of working and contribute to the national bat technical working group, where interested.
Qualifications
- Hold a NatureScot bat licence, or be in the process of attaining one.
- Experience in carrying out and/or managing bat surveys across various habitat types and schemes.
- Experience with bat call analysis, data management, and interpretation of field survey data.
- Experience in report writing, with seniority levels depending on the role.
- Experience in development licensing applications.
- Strong teamwork skills within a Nature Services professional team.
- Good working knowledge of wildlife legislation relevant to bats.
