A Little More About Your Role… WSP is seeking an enthusiastic and talented Technical Director to join the Roads team based in Scotland & North East. This senior role is responsible for project delivery, technical excellence, design management and growing client relationships.
Responsibilities- Taking responsibility for management and leadership of technical project teams to deliver project scope.
- Fulfilling role of Design Manager on complex, multidisciplinary programmes of work.
- Providing technical leadership within the Liverpool office, supporting technical audits and development of junior team members.
- Visible leadership of health safety and wellbeing.
- Overseeing technical preparation, review and checking of deliverables.
- Managing project risk and opportunity to ensure effective coordination of multidisciplinary working.
- Managing resources efficiently to meet fluctuating workloads.
- Working with Clients and design teams to deliver compliant designs on time and within budget, meeting CDM, QA and technical review requirements.
- Participating in tender bids and business development opportunities as they arise.
- Developing relationships with other WSP teams to utilise additional required resources.
- Responsibility for setting the technical leadership tone in the office, ensuring a fair, supportive and passionate culture.
- Experience in leadership of large technical teams.
- Experience in technical delivery leadership and financial control of major programmes of work in the Roads sector.
- Proven track record as Design Manager on major Roads programmes, including integration of multidisciplinary designs and associated quality audits.
- Broad project experience within civil engineering discipline and multidisciplinary projects, focusing on highways.
- Experience in technical and financial leadership of Design and Build contracts.
- Ability to use, direct and check design outputs in relevant software such as Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, and/or PDS.
- Demonstrated ability to improve, motivate and encourage others, lead and implement change programmes, inspiring colleagues and driving an innovative and supportive culture.
- Commercial and strategic capability with a track record in identifying and delivering new business opportunities.
- Proactively manages change on tasks and projects, clearly communicating potential impacts on programme, cost and quality.
- Influential and persuasive internally and externally, encouraging open dialogue and feedback.
- Understanding and application of design codes such as Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, TSRGD, local authority design guidance and preparation of drawings for contract documentation and technical approvals.
- Chartered Civil Engineer with ICE of CIHT, extensive post‑professional qualification experience.
- Fellowship status or working towards Fellowship with demonstrable progress.
- Experience complying with Designers Duties under CDM regulations.
