About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Transport Planning team in Cardiff as an Associate Director or as a Technical Director. This strategic role involves leading and supporting the development of our Cardiff Transport Planning Team, working collaboratively with leadership to shape the local vision, grow our services across clients in Wales, and deliver impactful transport solutions throughout the region.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver impactful transport planning projects across the region.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders in the Cardiff Office and across the UK to drive growth, expand market share, and focus on public sector clients in Wales.
  • Identify market trends and innovate to add value to projects and bids, positioning WSP to maximise opportunities in the Local Government market.
  • Lead the preparation of bids, fee proposals and project programmes, using strong commercial acumen to grow our transport planning and modelling business.
  • Grow the transport planning and modelling portfolio, identify new markets, respond to policy and regulatory change, and lead on data‑led integrated approaches.
  • Contribute to WSP’s four pillars (People; Clients & Growth; Operations; and Technical Excellence) and support the Leads in these areas.
  • Provide direction and mentoring to the wider team to maximise their potential.

Team

Our Transport Planning Team in Cardiff is part of the UK & Ireland Transport & Mobility Planning business. We work closely with virtual teams in Net Zero, Future Mobility, Freight and multidisciplinary colleagues in development planning, highways and environment teams. We deliver a wide range of transport planning projects and offer a cross‑sector portfolio that includes active travel solutions; public transport network planning; scheme development and appraisal; business case development; government funding applications; economic and carbon appraisal; consultation and engagement; and transport strategy and policy development.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record of leading and managing transport planning projects in Wales.
  • Experience in client‑facing roles and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams and individuals.
  • Track record of work winning and bidding success.
  • Successful delivery of public sector work.
  • Strong client relationships within Wales and potentially across the UK.
  • Passion for mentoring and developing talent.
