We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced CDM Consultant to provide specialist advice and guidance on CDM compliance, risk management, and health and safety throughout the design and construction process.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure risk management processes align with CDM 2015; review and provide input on design management plans, risk registers, and document control pathways.
- Work closely with the project team to ensure all aspects of the Principal Designer role are performed.
- Assist designers in applying the Principles of Prevention to design out risks and hazards as far as reasonably practicable.
- Provide the client with Pre‑construction Information (PCI) and circulate PCI to all designers and contractors.
- Prepare and hand over the Health and Safety File to the Principal Contractor or client as appropriate.
- Attend site to establish pre‑construction conditions, site layout, and collect or ascertain the extent of previous H&S / O&M, site risk management information.
- Support the pre‑construction phase to ensure transfer of risk information from the design team for CPP development; review CPP, initial start‑up, and risk assessments.
- Conduct safety audits on a regular basis to monitor progress and statutory compliance on site; provide regular monthly reporting.
- Implement a near‑miss reporting mechanism and accident reporting tracker/database in line with client processes.
- Support continuous improvement programmes; promote lessons‑learnt sessions for the project team and foster H&S awareness and commitment at all levels.
What We’re Looking For
- NEBOSH Diploma or Construction Certificate (or higher) or equivalent health and safety qualification.
- Experience acting as CDM Representative on medium to large projects.
- Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and wider construction health and safety legislation.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills; ability to lead meetings and engage with clients, designers, and contractors.
- Proficient in preparing pre‑construction information, design risk registers, and Health and Safety Files.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective time management and organisation.
Desirable Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent in a construction‑related discipline or civil engineering.
- Experience with National Grid Transmission in a CDM Representative or Principal Design Representative role, or a comparable role in a similar sector.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IOSH, APS, RIBA, ICE, CIOB, CABE).
