WSP’s Transport & Mobility team is growing, and we are now looking for a Transport Modeller or Assistant Transport Modeller to join our team. There is flexibility around where this role can be based, with potential home offices including: Birmingham, Manchester, Bristol, Leeds, London, Cambridge, Cardiff, Exeter, Basingstoke and Guildford. WSP’s approach to hybrid working allows for a mix of in‑office and home working. You will join one of the UK’s leading transport planning and transport modelling consultancies, working at the forefront of delivering complex, high‑profile infrastructure and development projects. As a Transport Modeller/Engineer, you will play a key role in developing innovative, evidence‑led transport solutions that influence how people move, live and connect across the UK.
What You’ll Be Doing
- You’ll work across a diverse portfolio of public and private sector projects, applying advanced transport modelling techniques to support strategic decision‑making.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing and applying transport models, including model building, calibration, validation and forecasting.
- Supporting or leading projects encompassing transport strategies, business cases, and demand forecasting.
- Analysing and interpreting complex datasets to produce meaningful insights and recommendations.
- Preparing technical reports, presentations and client deliverables.
- Scoping modelling requirements and defining appropriate methodologies.
- Collaborating with multi‑disciplinary teams across planning, engineering and environmental services.
- Supporting continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the transport modelling community.
- Engaging with clients and stakeholders to explain modelling outputs in a clear, accessible way.
Qualifications
- Some experience in developing transport models, including calibration, validation and testing.
- Experience in at least one modelling package such as VISUM, SATURN, EMME or similar.
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Understanding of UK transport policy, appraisal, and transport modelling guidance e.g. Department for Transport (DfT) Transport Analysis Guidance (TAG).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in Python or other programming languages such as R, Java or C++.
- Experience in GIS.
- The ability to communicate technical outputs to non‑technical audiences.
- A collaborative approach with the confidence to work both independently and as part of a team.
