A Little More About Your Role

We are seeking a talented, enthusiastic, and committed Senior Water Resources Consultant to support a range of projects undertaken by our Sustainable Water Management team. Your work will span water resources planning, water policy, and hydrology, with responsibility for technical delivery, project management, and contribution to new business development through proposal writing. The role focuses on UK water companies, regional groups, and regulators, but also provides opportunities to work with a variety of clients across sectors and, where applicable, across the EU and internationally. We particularly welcome experience in water resources simulation modelling, demand management, hydrological modelling, and options appraisal. Opportunities also exist to take on broader projects in hydrogeology, water quality, flood risk management, and environmental impact assessment.

Your Team

The Catchment Science team delivers integrated water‑resource planning services for the water industry, regulators, and government. The team works to understand the resilience of existing water‑resource systems under population growth and environmental pressures, and to support clients in developing and appraising supply and demand solutions.

What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate

  • Demonstrable experience applying water‑resources management tools and a breadth of water‑resource planning experience in consultancy, water company, regulatory, or academic settings.
  • Understanding of the latest UK regulatory requirements for water‑resource management, including the Water Resource Planning Guidelines.
  • Experience with water‑resources planning projects such as environmental destination, water‑resources modelling, and/or demand management.
  • Strong numerate and analytical skills, with an ability to analyze problems and devise solutions to novel challenges.
  • Some programming experience (Python and/or R) is advantageous, especially for developing innovative water‑management solutions.
  • Experience managing small projects or a clear interest in developing project‑management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to produce high‑quality, concise reports.

Qualifications

  • A degree‑level qualification in a relevant field such as geography, hydrology, earth/environmental science, civil engineering, or mathematics.
  • Post‑graduate qualification in water‑resources management, hydrology, or a related discipline.
  • Progress toward chartership with a relevant professional body.

EEO Statement

Here at WSP we positively encourage applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief, marital status, pregnancy or maternity/paternity. As a Disability Confident leader, we will interview all disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria.
