WSP’s Infrastructure Planning team is seeking a Senior Consultant to support town planning and consenting for major infrastructure projects across sectors. The role involves leading consents under UK planning legislation and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the town planning and consenting process for large infrastructure projects including DCOs, DNSs and TWAOs.
  • Provide technical advice to clients, coordinating application preparation and submission under relevant UK planning acts.
  • Support negotiations with statutory bodies and stakeholders, representing client interests.
  • Deliver technical oversight to cross‑disciplinary project teams.
  • Act as line manager and mentor junior colleagues.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge base and development of team capabilities.
  • Maintain awareness of project finances and management practices.

Qualifications

  • Degree level qualification in town planning or equivalent.
  • Member of the RTPI.
  • Demonstrated experience of securing consents for major UK infrastructure projects under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990, Planning Act 2008, Transport and Works Act Order, and other relevant regimes.
  • Experience of working within multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver consents.
  • Strong technical knowledge of planning legislation and best practice.
  • Experience of line management or mentoring in a consulting environment.
