A Little More About Your Role
As our business grows we are securing a significant increase in long-term contracts in the property sector. The project management office (PMO) is a key function for managing our WSP major projects within property and buildings (P&B). As our projects grow in size and complexity we need proficient PMs with experience in:
- Schedule Management
- Project management including Business management Systems Compliance
- CDM Compliance
- Building regulation compliance
- Document Management
- Stakeholder Management

To support this growing portfolio of work we are looking to strengthen our capabilities in project management of the design services through a number of talented individuals who specialise in this arena and will thrive in this type of environment.
We are looking for an individual to act as Project controls service lead for this internal facing PMO who will:
- Identify and manage the current workload and pipeline for Project Controls on major projects and opportunities within P&B
- Assist the PMO Lead to define the scope of, and best practice in, management of project controls and schedule management for P&B major projects and identify the most effective way to deliver these services.
- Support the management of Project Controllers in the UK and our Global Capability Centres
- Lead in approach to the development of skills and capabilities of individuals in Project Controls
- Provide Project Controls on major projects and programmes
- Be part of a team looking at new future facing project management solutions as part of our digital solutions
- Work collaboratively with WSP disciplines including any sub-consultants and project partners on projects and in the delivery of new project management solutions
- Develop a standardised approach to project controls on Major projects in conjunction with other SBUs
It is anticipated that the role will be a minimum of 75% utilisation on projects.
Your team
You will be working on major projects across a range of sectors. You will be influential in shaping the strategic direction of our future project management strategies and solutions. You will be part of a team of likeminded individuals (the team is expected to rapidly grow, providing good career opportunities). The role will report to the team PMO lead. The main office location is flexible, with some expectation to travel occasionally to regional offices as the team and workload expand. This is a unique role allowing the successful candidate to work on live projects whilst shaping the future of project management within our business unit.
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate
- Fantastic collaborator and facilitator with excellent negotiation skills
- Curious and inquisitive in nature, seeking to understand the root cause and context of presenting issues
- Evidence of working in a fast paced and agile environment and really taking the lead for driving success goals into the delivery
- Pragmatic practitioner of NEC forms of contract, who can apply the contract in a collaborative and positive fashion
- Skilled and impactful communicator with the ability to unpick and present complex problems in an understandable and simplified fashion
- An architectural, engineering or project management degree
- Membership of a Professional Institution
- Is a Charter Project Manager with the APM (or equivalent) or is working towards this.
- Experience of Project Controls and project management for complex multidisciplinary projects
- Drive to grow a new service line within the property and buildings business unit.
- Demonstrates collaborative behaviours, ethics and promote health, safety and wellbeing within the team.
- Must be eligible for SC clearance prior to commencing employment.
