Job Description

In this role, you will be part of the Energy Transition Process team developing innovative solutions to complex problems, delivering projects at various stages of maturity. Working as part of a large multidisciplinary engineering group, you will oversee the development of process plant designs for a wide range of energy projects, including conventional power plant, carbon capture, hydrogen generation and transportation, gas networks, energy from waste, and industrial facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the process engineering team to deliver technically excellent solutions across a broad portfolio of projects.
  • Work on projects at various stages of maturity from feasibility studies through detailed design; support site work during development, construction, and commissioning.
  • Prepare process models, calculations, data sheets, heat and mass balances, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and process philosophies.
  • Generate and maintain internal tools and calculations.
  • Provide visible technical and team leadership and governance.
  • Develop designs and approaches that differentiate WSP from competitors.
  • Promote and lead innovation across the team, applying engineering principles to first‑of‑a‑kind projects.
  • Collaborate with other WSP groups to maximize cross‑selling opportunities.
  • Support business leadership in bid preparation, pricing strategy input.
  • Identify skills gaps and recruit technical staff.
  • Maintain and develop processes and procedures for efficient design delivery.
  • Ensure integration of UK best practice (e.g., BMS, SHEQ) and interface with GCC.

Your Team

Our Energy Transition team’s expertise covers all generation and conversion technologies, including novel first‑of‑a‑kind and low‑ or zero‑carbon concepts. The team is situated across the UK, India, Ireland, and Europe, working with private developers, utilities, governments, banks, lending agencies, contractors, and OEMs to deliver projects worldwide.

Qualifications

  • Degree in a relevant engineering subject (Chemical Engineering preferred).
  • Chartered Chemical Engineer and member of a relevant engineering institute.
  • Significant postgraduate experience in process design.
  • Ability and desire to lead the development of process deliverables.
  • Knowledge of design and construction of power and energy projects, especially low‑ or zero‑carbon technologies and gasification.
  • Proven understanding of the design process with experience producing calculations and handling brief/scope documents.
  • Experience with process design software such as Thermoflow, Aspen Hysys, UniSim, etc.
  • Experience working with clients and contractors across diverse objectives to achieve technical solutions.
