We are looking for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer or Engineering Geologist to join our offices across the UK, available on full‑time or part‑time basis.
About the Role
As a senior technical leader, you will develop professional and technically competent reports, liaise with specialists and clients across a wide range of sectors, manage project work with strong financial control, allocate team resources, and mentor professional staff. You will also support all aspects of project delivery including client liaison, contractors, sub‑consultants, public and statutory body consultation, quality control, and specialist management.
Responsibilities
- Produce high‑quality professional reports and interface with specialists and clients.
- Effectively manage and deliver project work with robust financial management.
- Assist in the allocation of team resources and project resources.
- Manage, motivate, mentor and develop professional staff.
- Provide support in all aspects of project delivery, including client liaison, contractors and sub‑consultants, public and statutory body consultation, quality control and specialist management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Technical expertise in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology.
- Consultancy experience with strong commercial awareness and client/contractor relationships.
- Chartered professional qualification with significant post‑qualification experience.
- Experience delivering geotechnical, engineering geology and ground engineering projects, including drafting high‑technical reports.
- Understanding of client requirements and ability to influence contract specifications.
- Experience leading delivery teams on short‑ to medium‑term projects from inception to construction.
- Excellent report‑writing and client liaison skills.
- Experience managing desk studies, designing, procuring and supervising ground investigations, checking ground investigation reports and geotechnical design reports in accordance with Eurocode 7 Part 1.
- Working knowledge of Eurocode 7 and UK annex design codes, ground investigation and construction contracts and specifications.
- Familiarity with geotechnical software for deep and shallow foundations, embedded and gravity retaining walls, earthworks/slope stability and reinforced earthworks.
- Ability to critically evaluate the work of others—drawings, calculations and reports—showing a proven track record.
