A Little More About Your Role

The Offshore Substation Lead Engineer is the technical authority and delivery lead for offshore substations (HVAC). The role provides leadership from concept and FEED through detailed design and commissioning support, ensuring solutions are safe, compliant, optimised, and delivered to programme and quality expectations.

Your Responsibilities

  • Act as technical lead and design authority for offshore substation electrical engineering.
  • Lead and coordinate multi‑disciplinary engineering delivery across internal teams, partners, and suppliers.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable international standards and project specifications.
  • Manage technical risk, change control, and design assurance activities.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the offshore wind sector, contributing to the growth of the engineering function.
  • Represent the company in technical discussions with stakeholders including clients, regulatory bodies and industry partners.
  • Lead and contribute to the development of bids and proposals with a particular focus on technical content.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant technical regulations, standards and best practices.
  • Manage technical budgets, schedules and resources effectively.
  • Lead technical interfaces with clients, OEMs, contractors, and verification bodies.
  • Support procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning phases.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and technical guidance to engineers and designers.

What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate

  • Working knowledge across HV/MV/LV systems, transformers, GIS/AIS, reactors and compensation, protection & control, and a working interface knowledge across SCADA and communications, earthing and lightning protection, auxiliary power systems, cable systems and terminations.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Chartered Engineer status desirable.
  • Offshore safety certification desirable.
  • Proven experience delivering offshore HVAC substations, HVDC experience desirable.
  • Strong background across project lifecycle stages with client‑facing technical leadership.
  • Strong technical leadership, structured problem solving, excellent communication skills, and ability to lead teams across multiple locations and disciplines.
