About Your Role

We are looking for a consultant with experience in technical advisory on waste services options appraisal, waste flow modelling and/or waste procurement projects. The role will include:

  • Leading, managing and/or delivering:
  • Options appraisals;
  • Waste flow and cost modelling;
  • Business case development;
  • Technical procurement advisory input;
  • Proposals for winning work;
  • Business development initiatives including publication of thought pieces and articles.

Line-management and/or mentoring of junior staff; Providing excellent care for our clients and team members by adhering to our business values. Guidance and support will be provided to help you confidently deliver these responsibilities and progress your career.

Scope of Projects

Leading or supporting projects across a wide range of waste management themes, focusing on options appraisal and procurement of waste infrastructure and environmental services contracts; Supporting delivery of waste management options appraisal and waste flow & cost modelling (e.g., waste collection, household reuse, recycling centres, treatment facilities); Supporting procurement exercises: assessing contract extension proposals, developing tender specifications, evaluating bidder submissions, and collaborating with bidders to refine proposals; Developing business cases for alternative service delivery models; Conducting environmental service reviews to analyse effectiveness and efficiency of existing services and propose improvements and savings.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects by applying internal procedures to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery with high client satisfaction;
  • Act as a technical expert or provide input to resources and waste projects, including drafting whole reports or contributing to specific sections;
  • Attend client meetings from inception to final reporting with a range of stakeholders (Council officers, private sector, WRAP, Defra, etc.);
  • Lead and support proposal development to create high quality, competitive submissions;
  • Develop and deliver services using innovative, robust, time-and cost-effective methodologies that are client-focussed;
  • Build and maintain relationships with existing and potential clients to increase the company profile and develop work pipelines;
  • Lead or deliver projects collaboratively with colleagues while adhering to WSP principles and policies.

Qualifications

  • Experience working for a consultancy, local authority or relevant organisation on waste-management projects;
  • Experience developing or significantly contributing to:
  • Options appraisals (qualitative & quantitative);
  • Waste flow and cost modelling;
  • Technical procurement documents (specifications, method statements, performance management frameworks, invitations to tender, etc.).
  • Understanding of UK resources and waste legislation and policy;
  • Ability to collaborate in a team and contribute positively to knowledge and development;
  • Tenacity to explore complex tasks and propose effective solutions;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, conveying key conclusions succinctly;
  • Excellent time-management skills;
  • Degree in a relevant subject, preferably in science, environment or engineering.
