This position is integral to WSP’s Strategic Bids Team, supporting operational businesses to deliver the company’s Strategic Growth Strategy through winning new, sustainable work. The role requires UK-wide travel and involves preparing compelling, consistent bid content that reflects client drivers, objectives, and needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Support WSP’s operational businesses to deliver growth through winning new, sustainable work.
- Build and maintain close links with subject matter experts and operational teams, collating best practice and innovation and articulating these into strategic bids.
- Understand client and internal requirements to support development of quality solutions and author written offers for strategic bids across WSP UK.
- Lead and facilitate content planning sessions with Bid Team members to establish structure, content, and flow of key responses.
- Develop written offers from initial content planning through drafting, quality reviews, to final production and submission.
- Adhere to and develop WSP’s in-house style guidance and coach team members in best practice writing for bids, client presentations, and sales collateral.
- Analyse bids to identify and share good practice, enhancing the library of high-scoring responses.
- Support bid planning, management, review, governance and feedback processes as required.
The Post Requires a Person Who Will
- Work closely and flexibly with the Bid Manager, technical authors, operational and business development staff to develop and advise on tailored solutions.
- Work independently to convert operational and business development knowledge into winning solutions and proposals.
- Develop new written content in collaboration with colleagues, ensuring comprehensive, correct and accurate answers.
- Identify and re‑work existing boilerplate to match specific client questions.
- Review, rewrite or edit written responses from others across a range of business functions.
- Build relationships quickly to deliver efficient, effective working within newly created bid teams.
- Analyse each bid to identify and share good practice with operational and business development staff across the business.
Qualifications
- Qualified to degree level in an appropriate subject (preferably English; other subjects that require assimilation and communication of information are acceptable).
- Good IT literacy, particularly MS Word; knowledge of InDesign is desirable.
- Relevant experience in a similar role producing tenders in WSP markets such as Transport & Infrastructure, Earth & Environment, Property & Buildings, Industry & Energy.
- Knowledge and experience of developing solutions and translating them into excellent written English for winning proposals.
- Strong command of oral and written English; ability to present complex ideas in a straightforward, compelling way.
- Excellent long‑form content development, writing, editing and proofreading skills.
- Strong collaboration, communication and active listening skills in team environments.
- Ability to work independently to tight deadlines and influence at senior levels.
- Understanding of the professional services industry and public sector procurement process.
- Support and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
