Join the WSP team in the UK & Ireland. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to Water Industry Natural Environment Programme (WINEP) and Water Resources Management Plan (WRMP) projects across the UK, within the Sustainable Water Management team. We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Senior or Principal Hydrologist to lead and contribute to high-profile WINEP and WRMP projects. WSP is delivering AMP8 WINEP projects for multiple high-profile UK water companies and supporting environmental destination investigations across the UK.
Our Catchment Science team covers water resources and water security, hydrology and hydraulics, water quality, hydroecology and hydrogeology, delivering high quality technical services to government departments, the water industry, and other sectors including power, transport, nuclear, mining, commercial and oil & gas.
Role and responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to WINEP investigations and WRMP inputs in recent AMP cycles.
- Develop rainfall–runoff models and apply model calibration techniques.
- Apply wider hydrology approaches for water resources applications in England and Wales.
- Contribute to demand management and water resources modelling approaches.
- Understand and apply UK water resources management regulations including the Water Resources Planning Guidelines and WINEP guidance (e.g., Preventing Deterioration and Environmental Destination).
- Assess climate change resilience and deliver high-quality client and regulator-facing deliverables.
- Use programming skills (e.g., Python and/or R) where relevant and develop these skills further.
- Write concise, high-quality reports and work collaboratively with other sectors/disciplines on diverse projects.
Qualifications
A water-focused MSc (e.g., hydrology & water resources, sustainable water management) and BSc in related subjects (e.g., physical geography, earth sciences, geology, civil engineering). Gained or working towards chartership with a relevant professional body.
