Overview

Bridge Inspector – East Sussex – a role with WSP in the UK & Ireland. Based in Ringmer, East Sussex, the position combines office and site work with travel and accommodation for inspections. This role is part of a Strategic Partnership with Balfour Beatty Living Places (BBLP), delivering Professional Services for East Sussex County Council’s highways and infrastructure services. The contract value is £297 million, with an initial seven-year term commencing on 1 May 2023.

The position has a combination of office and site based work, with travel and accommodation (where appropriate) for inspections.

Your role and team

The Structures team handles highway and rail bridge engineering and delivers the annual programme of General & Principal Inspections for East Sussex Highways. You will join the Bridges team based in Ringmer, East Sussex, and will play a pivotal role in planning and delivering a full inspection programme. You will apply your knowledge to deliver quality on time and within budget, and mentor junior team members in bridge inspection work.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate

  • A hands-on dedication to safe working practices and recording of safety observations.
  • Relevant inspection and access qualifications, e.g., STE4, STE5, PASMA, rail trolley controller, PTS certification and/or National Highways passport, BICS certified inspector.
  • Practical knowledge and experience of bridge inspection and reporting for railway and highway clients.
  • Proven competency in the use of measuring and surveying equipment (e.g., level, total station).
