A little more about your role… We have retained the Shropshire Professional Service Contract with key local client, Shropshire Council. We pride ourselves on the longevity of this contract, and the close working relationship we have developed over the last 23 years. WSP work collaboratively as part of the Shropshire Alliance alongside Shropshire Council and Kier. We deliver a broad range of exciting projects, providing new and varied opportunities on this contract and within the wider WSP business.
As a senior member of our Road Safety & Traffic Engineering team you will work with our clients to achieve their transport needs. You will be a key player in managing traffic engineering and road safety schemes across the region - analysing collision data, undertaking speed management and liaising with our clients to meet their needs.
This is a varied role, with main responsibilities including:
- Leading the design and delivery of general traffic engineering, road safety and active travel schemes
- Preparing and reviewing reports, drawings, schedules and other documents in accordance with local procedures and guidance
- Being responsible for the financial performance of projects
- Undertaking technical review and checking of design deliverables within the team
- Being an active and collaborative team member – working with other disciplines and working closely with the Client team
- Contributing to technical excellence and innovation within the team
- Potential for line management and mentoring opportunities.
Your team… You will be an integral part of a highly collaborative team in Shropshire of approximately 75 people. As part of our commission, we work across multi asset teams offering individual or cross-asset support to deliver our projects, including major projects, and strategic planning for the client. This new contract brings with it exciting opportunities in economic growth, buildings management and project management and offers excellent prospects for career advancement and development. We are looking for individuals who can support us in our vision of delivering high quality, fast paced outcomes for the communities of Shropshire.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
- Track record of leading on Road Safety and Traffic Engineering projects – including general traffic engineering, road safety and active travel schemes.
- Familiarity with relevant design standards such as TSRGD, DMRB, Manual for Streets and the Traffic Signs Manual.
- Writing and implementing traffic regulation orders in line with The Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
- Preparing and reviewing technical outputs including drawings, reports, and specifications.
- A good working knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation and CDM responsibilities.
- Experience of managing project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Effective communication with Clients, Contractors, and other Key Stakeholders to deliver outputs on time and within budget.
- Delegation of tasks to Early Career Professionals and Graduates to contribute to their development.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, KeySIGN/LINES/POST software.
