We are looking for a Senior or Principal Engineer to join our growing Liveable Places team in Newcastle, with hybrid working available. WSP's Liveable Places team works with a wide range of local authority & private clients from across the UK to help them achieve their place making ambitions. As a Principal Engineer within the team, you will take the lead on delivering a wide range of schemes from concept to delivery - including public realm, active travel, traffic engineering, road safety, parking, traffic signals and traffic modelling. Your role will also be to support in bid preparation and to develop and mentor more junior colleagues.
This is a varied role with responsibilities including:
- Preparing and overseeing the delivery of multiple sustainable transport and public realm projects from early concept and business case development through to detailed design and on-site implementation.
- Manage project programmes, budgets, risks, reporting and change control to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
- Involvement in the management of internal and external client relationships.
- Collaborative working with team members and other business disciplines.
- Support the successful delivery of projects in line with WSP project management frameworks, APM best practice and relevant health and safety requirements.
- Contribute to a collaborative, high-performing team culture and support the continued growth of the Liveable Places team.
The Liveable Places team are based in offices across the country with over 200 staff, currently making up the team and with further growth planned. We have a strong track record working closely with our clients and this role provides a great opportunity to have a pivotal role within Liveable Places and help support and steer its growth going forward.
What we’re looking for:
- HND or degree in Civil Engineering / other relevant degree or equivalent work experience.
- Strong experience delivering highways, public realm or transport infrastructure projects from concept through to construction.
- Technical knowledge and experience in the assessment and design of highways / transportation engineering projects.
- Experience delivering public realm, active travel or transport schemes in complex urban environments.
- Proven ability to manage project programmes, budgets, cost control and financial reporting across multiple live projects.
- Experience in the application of design standards and current good practice in scheme design.
- A proactive, collaborative and delivery-focused approach, with strong communication and organisational skills.
- Experience with software including: AutoCAD, AutoTrack, KeySign, KeyLine or Civil 3D.
