Overview
In this role within WSP’s Intelligent Infrastructure practice, you help integrate safety across design, operation and policy to reduce harm in transport and infrastructure. You’ll collaborate with cross-disciplinary experts to deliver advisory and design-oriented safety work for roads, rail, energy and active travel. You’ll contribute to safety governance, horizon scanning and risk-based decision making, shaping safer systems for clients. Responsibilities
- Provide expert safety advice to clients to support objectives
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary specialists on safety risk assessments, operating procedures, and major projects
- Conduct research and data analysis to inform safety decisions
- Engage stakeholders (emergency services, highway authorities, transport operators) for insights
- Lead technical work packages in terms of time, cost and quality and ensure client satisfaction
- Present findings and recommendations to client forums and industry stakeholders
- Support growth of the Operational Safety expertise area and mentor junior colleagues
Key requirements
- Experience preparing or reviewing safety risk assessments, hazard logs and risk registers in transport
- Understanding of safety by design concepts and CDM 2015
- Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g., civil engineering, transport studies, geography, psychology, arts) or equivalent technician qualifications with experience
- Ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative data analysis; familiarity with AI tools for research and reporting
- Excellent verbal and written communication and ability to present compelling narratives
- Conscientious, detail-oriented, and capable of working under own initiative
- Enthusiasm to mentor colleagues and collaborate with clients
- Strong stakeholder relationship and collaboration skills
