About your role...
We are seeking a Principal or Associate Engineer to join our Liveable Places team, based in Westferry Circus (Canary Wharf), with flexible hybrid working. This is a senior role within WSP’s Liveable Places team, where you will lead the technical delivery of flagship highways and public realm projects across London.
In this role you will play a key role in leading on the design of high-quality highways, active travel and public realm schemes, shaping streets and places that are safer, greener and more inclusive. This is a hands-on technical role, balancing project management, design leadership, assurance and mentoring, while working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
Beyond project delivery, you will support strong client relationships, contribute to framework success and help foster a high-performing team culture.
This is a varied role with responsibilities including:
- Leading the delivery of multiple sustainable transport and public realm projects from early concept and business case development through to detailed design and on-site implementation.
- Technical leadership and responsibility for providing technical oversight and quality assurance across highways, public realm and transport projects.
- Design coordination and integration of multi-disciplinary design packages including Lighting, Electrical, Hostile Vehicle Mitigation, Structures and Sustainable Drainage Systems.
- Coordination with the Principal Contractor throughout design development and site supervision support during the construction stage.
- Reviewing and approving designs, reports and technical deliverables prepared by project teams and supply chain partners.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant standards, client requirements and industry best practice.
- Mentoring and developing junior engineers and graduates.
- Supporting framework opportunities, fee proposals and bid submissions.
- Identifying opportunities for repeat work and account growth.
About the Liveable Places Team…
WSP's Liveable Places team works with a wide range of local authority & private clients from across the UK to help them achieve their place making ambitions. As a Principal or Associate Engineer within the team, you will take the lead on delivering a wide range of schemes from concept to delivery - including public realm, active travel, traffic engineering, road safety, parking, traffic signals and pedestrian / traffic modelling.
The Liveable Places team are based in offices across the country with over 200 staff, currently making up the team and with further growth planned. We enjoy our work and are exceptionally enthusiastic people who are great at what we do. What we’re looking for...
- Experience delivering public realm, active travel or transport schemes in complex urban environments, particularly in London.
- Strong experience in UK highways and public realm detailed design.
- Confident working with standards such as MfS, DMRB, TSRGD and LTN guidance.
- Passionate about design quality and collaborative delivery.
- Proven ability to manage project programmes, budgets, cost control and financial reporting across multiple live projects.
- A proactive, collaborative and delivery-focused approach, with strong communication skills.
