Lead bridge design in WA—while shaping the team and the client outcomes. This is a senior technical leadership role for a bridge/transport structures specialist who enjoys solving complex design challenges, guiding quality outcomes, and building trusted client relationships. You'll work with our Bridges, Aviation and Roads team on major WA transport infrastructure—partnering with multidisciplinary specialists locally and drawing on WSP's national and global expertise when it adds value.
The role involves leading the design and delivery of complex bridge and transport-structure solutions across WA. You'll act as a technical authority for quality and safety, provide leadership to project teams, and work directly with clients and stakeholders to shape scope, solve challenges, and deliver trusted outcomes. Success in this role means consistently high technical quality, strong risk management, and designs that are safe, sustainable, constructible and aligned to client objectives.
What you'll do:
- Lead bridge and transport-structure design from concept to detailed design, including options assessment and design development.
- Act as technical authority: undertake/oversee design checks, reviews and technical governance of drawings, models and reports.
- Own delivery outcomes for your projects—scope, programme, budget, risk and resourcing.
- Be a trusted client partner: lead technical discussions, resolve issues early and identify opportunities to add value.
- Support business growth through bids and proposals—technical inputs, estimates, win themes and delivery approaches.
- Coach and mentor engineers, building capability and a culture of strong engineering judgement and ethical practice.
- Champion HSEQ: embed safety in design, ensure compliance with WSP HSEQ systems and project requirements.
- Drive digital delivery and innovation—effective use of 3D modelling, model-based outputs and modern workflows.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing through internal networks, technical development and professional leadership.
What you'll bring:
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
- Extensive consulting experience delivering major bridge/transport-structure projects.
- Proven leadership across technical delivery (design management, reviews, governance) and team development.
- Strong knowledge of Australian Standards and WA client requirements (Main Roads WA, PTA) for bridge design.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills (clients, reviewers, contractors and internal teams).
- Experience with digital delivery and 3D structural modelling workflows (model review, coordination, model-based outputs).
- Commitment to safety in design, ethics, quality and continuous improvement.
Nice to have:
- Chartered status (e.g., CPEng or equivalent) and/or registration (or a clear pathway to achieve it).
- Experience leading bids, frameworks or key-client accounts in the transport sector.
- Construction-phase support and design-for-constructability experience on complex bridge packages.
Why WSP:
- Lead meaningful WA transport projects with real community impact.
- Join a well-established, growing Perth Transport team with strong local clients.
- Access national and global technical specialists to support complex challenges.
- Flexible working arrangements and clear technical leadership pathways.
- A collaborative culture that invests in mentoring, development and wellbeing.
