Overview
In this role you will lead environmental performance across construction delivery for Hunter Water projects, guiding environmental management across active sites and mentoring a small team. You’ll oversee remediation and continual improvement of environmental plans, collaborate with partners and contractors, and support planning and approvals for major capital works. The opportunity combines hands-on site leadership with the chance to shape sustainable infrastructure delivery within a collaborative, purpose-driven environment.

Responsibilities
- Lead environmental performance across construction projects
- Provide advice on environmental issues on active sites
- Oversee the review and improvement of environmental management plans
- Collaborate with delivery partners and JV stakeholders to manage risks
- Guide on-scope delivery of city and community-enabling projects
- Provide senior technical guidance and mentoring to junior staff
- Support delivery of major capital projects and water/infrastructure works
- Provide environmental auditing capability in post-approvals space
- Contribute to planning and approvals processes
- Develop practical responses to construction-related environmental challenges across water, road, powerline or similar sites
Key requirements
- Tertiary qualification in environmental science/management or related discipline
- Around 7–10 years’ experience in environmental management
- Experience managing environmental issues during construction delivery
- Strong knowledge of environmental legislation for construction sites
- Leadership capability to mentor and support a team
- Experience working with contractors, delivery partners or joint ventures
- Practical knowledge of environmental requirements across infrastructure construction sites
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to tailor messages
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and engage a broad range of stakeholders
- Valid driver’s licence and white card
- Auditor qualification or willingness to obtain Environmental Lead Auditor accreditation
- Experience with water utilities or water infrastructure projects is advantageous but not essential
