Overview
As Principal Traffic & Parking Engineer you will shape streets and placemaking through innovative parking, traffic management and kerbside solutions. You’ll lead and deliver strategic parking initiatives within WSP’s Liveable Places team, collaborating across transport planning, highways and urban design. The role offers hybrid work from multiple UK offices and opportunities to influence client relationships and business growth. You’ll work on high-impact projects that support sustainable transport and thriving communities, with a clear focus on delivering practical, people-centred outcomes.

Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver parking strategy, design and operational projects
- Develop CPZs, parking strategies and management schemes
- Collaborate with the TROs team on regulatory tasks
- Advise clients on parking policy, enforcement and kerbside management
- Manage project budgets, programmes and resources
- Collaborate with colleagues across transport planning, active travel, highways, road safety, placemaking and urban design
- Support public consultations, stakeholder engagement and committee reports
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and identify opportunities for new work and bids
Key requirements
- Experience delivering parking and traffic management projects in a consultancy, local authority or related environment
- Strong knowledge of parking policy, TROs and design standards
- Experience working with local authority clients and stakeholders
- Excellent report writing and communication skills
- Experience managing projects and client relationships
- Commercial awareness and understanding of project delivery
- Advantageous: knowledge of moving traffic enforcement schemes
- Advantageous: CPZs and parking strategy development
- Professional membership of CIHT, TPS, ICE or similar; Chartered status or progression to qualification
