Overview
In this role you contribute to safe, design-led projects within WSP’s multidisciplinary teams. You’ll offer independent safety guidance to clients and help integrate design safety across transportation, infrastructure, and energy projects. You will work with designers and engineers to develop practical hazard mitigation and compliance strategies, shaping safer outcomes and broader safety culture. Responsibilities
- Review design-stage risk information and challenge it for safety improvements
- Collaborate with designers to create viable hazard-mitigation strategies
- Gather information to inform risk profiles and compliance plans (PCI, HSF, BSA)
- Share industry best practices and contribute to internal knowledge
- Advise clients on CDM legal responsibilities and Building Safety Act implications
- Apply CDM principles to complex or non-standard projects
- Scope project issues and develop robust methodologies for resolution
- Deliver safety-in-design strategies, plans, and project-specific approaches
- Contribute to compliance reporting and documentation in line with CDM and BSA
- Deliver own project deliverables aligned with time and cost proposals
Key requirements
- Proven track record as Safety in Design or CDM professional with hands-on design experience
- Strong practical knowledge of CDM 2015 and experience of BSA 2022
- Commitment to improving health and safety performance across construction projects
- Experience in transportation, utilities, engineering, operations, or risk management with design-process understanding
- Degree (or equivalent) in safety, engineering, construction, transportation, or related field or equivalent technical qualification
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for professional/client meetings
- Commitment to continued professional development; NEBOSH Construction certification and APS/IIRSM/IOSH membership preferred
