Overview
Senior Engineer at WSP supports the Development Team in Cardiff, delivering civil infrastructure designs for development schemes across Wales and the UK. You’ll lead multi-disciplinary design work, produce masterplans and planning-support reports, and mentor junior staff while managing projects to budget and schedule. The role spans client liaison, fee proposals, and business development within a high-performing team. You’ll contribute to landmark projects and the firm’s culture of technical excellence and inclusion.

Responsibilities
- Lead concept studies and strategy delivery from design through planning applications or construction drawings
- Take financial accountability for project delivery to budget, programme and technical standards
- Work on varied multi-disciplinary projects and liaise with local and national clients
- Direct line management and mentoring of early career professionals to ensure technical excellence
- Assist in preparing fee proposals and engage in business development activities
- Support and maintain positive team culture and environment
Key requirements
- Civil Engineering degree (preferably)
- Chartered status or approaching Chartered
- Experience in highway and highway drainage design
- Post-graduate experience in a civil engineering environment
- Ability to produce masterplans, site appraisals, planning reports, design calculations and construction drawings
- Solid understanding of highway design and drainage principles
- Experience with Civils 3D or PDS (or comparable software)
- Knowledge of Highways England/DMRB and Local Authority design guidance
- Experience with InfoDrainage and Water UK Sewerage Sector guidance; familiarity with design codes and technical agreements
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels
