In this role you will lead technical due diligence for port acquisitions and related transactions, translating complex engineering findings into clear risk and investment insights. You will work at the interface of engineering, investment and strategy, supporting lenders, investors and public-sector clients. The role blends technical judgement with advisory and commercial awareness to shape major port investments. Responsibilities

  • Lead ports technical due diligence workstreams for acquisitions, refinancings, concession bids, PPPs and capital investment reviews
  • Assess asset condition including capacity, maintenance backlog, lifecycle risk, future capex and expansion constraints
  • Plan and conduct reviews (site inspections, data room reviews, documentation gaps, information requests)
  • Coordinate inputs from maritime, civil, geotechnical, environmental, planning, buildings, electrical, cost and operations teams
  • Produce investor-grade outputs (red flag reports, risk registers, due diligence reports, lender advisor reports, investment summaries)
  • Challenge assumptions on throughput, phasing, asset condition, capex, permitting, and operating constraints
  • Engage with clients through meetings, Q&A, bid interviews, presentations and technical workshops
  • Support business development and proposals for due diligence, lender advisory, owner’s engineer, asset management and capital investment reviews
  • Develop repeatable methods (tools, templates, checklists, review approaches) for diligence, asset review and capex benchmarking
  • Promote practical advice balancing technical quality with commercial, programme, cost and risk considerations
  • Help build a trusted advisory capability valued by investors, lenders and public-sector clients

Key requirements

  • Significant experience in ports, terminals, maritime infrastructure or heavy civil infrastructure
  • Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional standing
  • Advisory or assurance experience in technical due diligence, lender technical advisory, owner’s engineer, asset management, independent engineer or concession support
  • Strong understanding of port infrastructure (quay walls, berths, marine structures, pavements, dredging, utilities, drainage, access, yards)
  • Proven ability to lead technical inputs and coordinate multidisciplinary teams in time-sensitive reviews
  • Excellent report writing with concise, risk-based outputs for non-technical senior stakeholders
  • Commercial awareness of how asset condition, capacity, lifecycle risk, resilience and capex affect value and investment decisions
