A little more about your role…

As a Principal Designer, you will play a critical role in the planning, coordination, and management of design health and safety throughout the lifecycle of complex electricity transmission and distribution projects. Acting on behalf of NGET in its Principal Designer role under CDM 2015 regulations, you will ensure suitable design risk management, support safety in design activities, and promote best practice in project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent NGET in the Principal Designer function for assigned energy infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with CDM 2015.
  • Coordinate and lead design risk reviews and ensure risk mitigation is embedded within the design process.
  • Co-ordination with survey team, draft PCI and Health and Safety file.
  • Ensure effective communication of design risks between designers, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Review and assess design information for constructability, maintainability, and decommissioning safety.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including design teams, engineering consultants, and contractors.
  • Maintain design risk registers and contribute and or chair HAZIDs, HAZOPs, HRM, DRM meetings and safety workshops.
  • Support the integration of safety, environmental, and engineering standards into project development.
  • Contribute to the development of NGET safety-in-design processes and policies.
  • Maintain records and evidence to demonstrate compliance and due diligence in the Principal Designer role.

What we\’re looking for you to demonstrate…

  • Degree in a relevant engineering or construction discipline (e.g. Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Structural)
  • NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ Level 4/5 in a H&S related subject or IOSH Managing Safety or similar.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction or engineering Industry
  • Demonstrable experience in Electricity Transmission and / or Distribution
  • Full Membership of a professional H&S organisation (e.g. IOSH, APS) or working towards one.
  • Full Membership of a relevant engineering or construction institution (e.g. ICE, IET, IStructE, RIBA) or working towards one.
