A little more about your role… We are looking for a Port Planner to join the Ports & Maritime team based in the UK. This role can be based in any WSP office with a preference for London, Basingstoke and Newcastle. As part of the team, you will have an opportunity to complement the wide experience of a highly knowledgeable and dynamic team of Ports & Maritime experts based in the UK and across the globe.
As a Port Planner, you will work with some of the world’s leading port and maritime experts in the delivery of complex multi-cargo port masterplans, feasibility studies, operational audits and due diligence assignments, globally. You will liaise and interact closely with our in-house maritime advisory, engineering and environmental teams to deliver comprehensive masterplan layouts, reports and business plans for both greenfield and brownfield developments for a variety of commodity sectors including containers and breakbulk, dry bulk, liquid bulk and marine facilities dedicated to the energy transition. You will be trained in the use of our in-house proprietary master planning tool PRIME, to efficiently assess phased land use plans and associated CapEx and OpEx. Experience with port planning and/or simulation tools is desirable. You will also play a proactive role in promoting maritime services internally and support other members of the wider WSP team in the roles they are required to perform. Proficient use of all usual MS office-based software is essential. Your role will be office based; however, you will have an opportunity to visit sites in the UK and internationally. Your responsibilities will include…
- Collaborate and align with client organisations to deliver projects and achieve client goals.
- Coordinate and collaborate between disciplines and project stakeholders.
- Deliver master planning and terminal planning projects in greenfield and brownfield environments.
- Undertake port capacity studies, operational audits, and capacity analyses as part of due diligence and peer review assignments.
- Drive digitalisation and innovation of port and terminal master planning through the use of PRIME and integration with broader digital delivery efforts.
- Collaborate with Key Client Managers to identify and pursue leads, developing client relationships and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
- Contribute to a positive safety culture within the team and project stakeholders.
- Demonstrate commitment to collaboration, learning and mentorship of others.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
- Possess strong analytical abilities
- Have a BEng/ MEng in Civil Engineering or similar/related qualification.
- Prior experience in planning container terminals, offshore wind ports and/or bulk facilities
- Hold chartership status with a professional association or an advanced project, programme or portfolio management qualification, for example, ChPP (Association for Project Management (APM)), PMP (Project Management Institute (PMI)) or equivalent.
- Extensive experience in a ports and maritime environment
