You will find yourself exploring new opportunities to make the most of your expertise, working with deep technical experts across multiple sectors delivering Operational Safety commissions. Our work on Operational Safety is to support clients with mitigation of risk to peopleβs life arising from the operation of plant or equipment or the provision of a service or asset for use. We look at how that risk changes over time particularly through interventions, e.g. when changing equipment and technology, but also when making changes to processes and organisational roles and responsibilities.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other specialists across WSP, on commissions which may range from short-term advisory projects to long-term multi-disciplinary engineering design schemes.
A little more about your role...
Working in our Operations and Safety team, the successful candidate will work alongside senior experts and collaboratively with other specialists across WSP, matching your operational safety within areas like roads, rail, energy and active travel to provide a strong and tailored offering for our clients. You will work on a wide range of operations and safety projects at a central and local government level, resulting in a varied and diverse portfolio.
The focus of the role is to undertake high quality technical work across the Intelligent Infrastructure discipline. You will work with industry leading experts as well as supporting junior colleagues.
A typical week would include:
- Working with our Clients, to provide expert advice to support their objectives.
- Working collaboratively with other specialists across WSP providing subject matter expert insight to safety risk assessments, operating procedures, policy and major projects etc.
- Presenting findings and recommendations to client forums and industry stakeholders.
- Engaging with stakeholders who have relevant insight to specific topics, e.g. emergency services, operational staff, highway authorities and breakdown recovery operators.
- Undertake lead responsible roles for technical packages of work in terms of time, cost and quality of the output, ultimately ensuring customer satisfaction throughout delivery.
- Supporting the growth of the Operational Safety capability to support delivery against its ambitions, helping drive delivery and business sustainability, with a particular focus on supporting the development of early career professionals.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate...
- Experience preparing and/or reviewing safety risk assessments, particularly in the transport domain.
- A degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g. civil engineering, transport studies, geography, psychology, arts) or are a technician with BTEC, HNC/HND and an appropriate level of experience.
- A passion in working towards systematic safety integration (e.g., the safe system approach and Vision Zero).
- A proven track record in a consultancy role or can demonstrate the aptitude and skills required to provide excellent consultancy support.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to undertake qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
- A conscientious approach with attention to detail and an ability to work under your own initiative.
- Excellent stakeholder relationships and collaboration skills.
- Experience contributing to or developing client proposals.
