We are looking to recruit a Town Planner at Principal to Associate Director grade, with a good understanding of the UK planning system, to help meet the needs of our clients and projects. Our growing Infrastructure Planning team are market leaders in securing consent for major infrastructure projects. We are supported by specialists in land referencing, environmental and stakeholder engagement. Our current clients include East West Rail, Eni UK, EDF Energy, National Grid, SSE, and Scottish Power Renewables, United Utilities, Yorkshire Water, South West Water and many more.

WSP is looking to grow its Infrastructure Planning team with the appointment of a senior level town planner with experience of supporting and delivering clients in one or more of the many consenting regimes we work within, including Development Consent Orders, Developments of National Significance (Wales), applications under the Town and Country Planning Act, Transport and Works Act Orders, the Electricity Act or Parliamentary Bills. We work at all stages of the consenting process from early feasibility, application preparation and delivery of consents through construction and on a variety of projects.

YOUR NEW ROLE, WHATS INVOLVED?

  • Providing support and guidance to junior consultants and overseeing/reviewing their work
  • Organising and managing work in a professional and responsible manner, collaborating closely across multi-disciplinary planning, land and environmental teams
  • Building good internal relationships through responsiveness and a commercial approach
  • Leading the preparation of consent applications which may include applications under the Town and Country Planning Acts, Planning Act, Developments of National Significance (Wales), Transport and Works Act or the Electricity Act.
  • Project management with effective budgetary control.
  • Desk studies, research, data management and report writing.
  • Supporting commercial role such as time, fee and other cost estimates, bid preparation and where required presenting to tenderers.

WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE

  • Degree level qualification in town planning.
  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject.
  • Chartered status (MRTPI) or working towards chartership.
  • Experience of delivering planning consents for infrastructure projects, working with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Sound knowledge and experience of the UK planning system, gained in either a local authority or private sector setting.

The successful candidate will need to be commercially aware and familiar with managing programme and budgets as part of project delivery. They will be responsible for managing and delivering into a broad range of consultancy and consents work including bidding, design/optioneering, assessment, consenting and approvals during construction and delivery.

You will be well versed in the preparation of all planning documentation for infrastructure projects, engagement with key stakeholders including planning authorities and statutory consultees. The role requires a good grounding in statutory procedures applicable to the consenting of infrastructure projects.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for this post which will also include exposure to both internal and external clients.
