We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Porter/Assistant to join the kitchen team at New Hall School. This is a great opportunity to play a vital part in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen environment in a supportive, food‑led Education setting.

We are seeking a reliable and organised Weekend Kitchen Porter to join our team at our establishment in Boreham, Essex. This is a key support role within our kitchen operations, where you will play an essential part in maintaining our high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and efficiency. Working weekends, you will support our kitchen team by ensuring all areas remain spotless and well‑organised, allowing our chefs to focus on food preparation and service delivery.

Job Description:

  • Wash, clean, and sanitise all kitchen equipment, utensils, crockery, and glassware to the highest hygiene standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, including floors, work surfaces, and storage areas.
  • Dispose of waste and recyclable materials in accordance with food safety regulations.
  • Assist with food preparation tasks as directed by the kitchen team, including peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients.
  • Stock and replenish kitchen supplies and equipment as required.
  • Operate commercial dishwashing equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Support the kitchen team during service periods to ensure smooth operations.
  • Adhere to all food safety and health and safety regulations at all times.
  • Report any equipment faults or maintenance issues promptly.
  • Work flexibly to meet the demands of weekend service.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Kitchen Porter or in a similar hospitality support role (desirable).
  • Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced, demanding kitchen environment.
  • Physical stamina and capability to lift, carry, and move heavy items regularly.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards.
  • Strong people skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a professional attitude.
  • Willingness to follow instructions and take direction from senior kitchen staff.
  • Basic communication skills in English.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and workload demands.
