About the role:

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic Sous Chef / Boarding Chef to join the kitchen team at Queen Mary's School. You will be responsible for preparing and cooking meals for boarding students and staff, help maintain high standards, and play a vital role in the delivery of daily meals and special events. This role will primarily be evenings and weekend work with every third weekend off and day shifts out of term. The standard shift pattern will be 12pm to 8pm (week days), 7am to 3pm (Saturdays) and 12pm to 8pm (Sundays). Days off during the week are up to the applicant and can be discussed in the interview.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook meals for boarding students and staff
  • Ensure meals are nutritious, balanced, and age-appropriate
  • Participate in the design of varied weekly menus
  • Work within school nutrition guidelines and budgets
  • Introduce healthy eating options and seasonal ingredients
  • Help plan meals for themed nights and school functions
  • Motivate the team to deliver high standards of food and service
  • Ensure food safety and allergen controls are consistently met
  • Manage mise en place and ensure smooth, timely service
  • Support events and functions alongside school life
  • Accountability for following and championing allergen controls

Qualifications

Candidate Profile:

  • Ideally, you will have experience as a Sous Chef, or Chef de Partie within a contract catering environment, preferably in independent education, or a high-profile business and industry setting.
  • Passionate about fresh, seasonal food and creative presentation
  • Strong attention to detail and high food safety standards
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • A flexible and proactive approach to work
