The Boxford , nestled 10 minutes from Newbury, is built on a site that was formerly occupied by ‘The Bell Inn’, a rural roadside inn that captured passing trade on the road to Newbury.

What was then a Victorian public house and 1980s annex was then turned into a modern and welcoming new restaurant in 2023.

A family-friendly dining and drinks destination that specialises in fresh Seasonal Mediterraneancuisine with fresh pasta, wood-fired sourdough pizza, events and evolving menu development, in the scenic Berkshire countryside.

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Sous Chef, The Sous Chef will support our talented Head Chef in the running and development of the team in training, Health and safety and Menus.

  • About the Sous Chef role
  • Reporting directly with the Executive/Head Chef and deputising in their absence
  • Working with the Executive/Head Chef to develop new menu ideas and ways to improve our offering
  • Ensuring the food quality is at its highest standard at all times
  • Ensure the performance of the chef team is of the highest standard by motivating and leading by example
  • Overseeing stock levels and making key decisions about stock control in conjunction with the Head Chef
  • Ensure all food safety and health and safety procedures are maintained to the highest standard
  • Developing ideas for Events
  • Potential for progression

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a CDP, senior CDP.
  • Proficiency in diverse cooking techniques and cuisines
  • Leaving Cert level education or above
  • NVQ qualification or equivalent
  • Ability to display a real passion for food and customer service
  • Flair and innovative with menus and food presentation
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
