Job Description

We’re on the lookout for a passionate and experienced Assistant Restaurant Manager to join our vibrant team at one of the most iconic cultural destinations in the world — The British Museum. Our restaurant serves fresh, seasonal food and high-quality drinks in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, all crafted with care and quality. As part of the Benugo family, we’re committed to creating memorable experiences for every guest, just as unforgettable as the museum’s treasures like the Rosetta Stone.

Please note that: We’re a 7-day operation, so we’re looking for candidates with full-time availability and the flexibility to work any day of the week (Monday–Sunday). Shifts typically run between 9:00am and 7:00pm, with occasional later finishes on Fridays (up to 9:00pm).

We Offer:

  • Salary: £35k–£37k based on experience + very generous tronc
  • Shifts: 5 days out of 7
  • Contract: Full-time, permanent

About the Assistant Restaurant Manager role:

As Assistant Restaurant Manager, you will support the day-to-day running of the restaurant, leading service from the floor and ensuring a consistently high standard of customer experience. You’ll work closely with the Restaurant Manager and the Operations Manager to drive operational excellence, team engagement, and commercial performance.

You’ll be a hands-on leader with a strong presence on the floor, supporting the team during service, coaching team members in real time, and ensuring smooth and efficient operations throughout the day.

You will also:

  • Support the Restaurant Manager in delivering exceptional service and operational standards
  • Lead and motivate the team during busy services
  • Help oversee reservations, table management, and guest flow
  • Handle customer feedback and resolve issues professionally
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of team members
  • Drive team engagement and create a positive working environment
  • Support labour control, productivity, and commercial performance
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, health & safety, and company procedures
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation, and service at all times
  • Deputise for senior management when required

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a restaurant leadership or supervisory role
  • Excellent product knowledge (food & beverage)
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Confident leading a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent customer care and problem-solving skills
  • Positive, supportive, and team-focused approach
  • Ability to take initiative and lead by example
  • Good understanding of restaurant operations and service standards
  • Flexible and reliable with a hands-on attitude
