We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Commis Chef to join our culinary team at our Desford facility in the United Kingdom. As a Commis Chef, you will work within a dynamic kitchen environment, supporting our experienced chefs in the preparation and cooking of high-quality meals. You will play a vital role in maintaining our standards of excellence whilst ensuring all food is prepared safely and efficiently. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your culinary skills within a professional catering organisation.
- Prepare and cook food items according to established recipes and culinary standards
- Maintain the highest standards of food safety, hygiene, and sanitation throughout the kitchen
- Assist senior chefs with food preparation, including chopping, mixing, and cooking techniques
- Organise and maintain your workstation, ensuring all equipment and ingredients are properly stored and accessible
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and effectively, including ovens, hobs, and food preparation machinery
- Support the kitchen team in a collaborative manner, responding promptly to requests and maintaining workflow efficiency
- Monitor food quality and presentation, ensuring all dishes meet organisational standards before service
- Rotate stock appropriately and report any shortages or equipment issues to senior staff
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and company policies at all times
- Assist with general kitchen cleaning and maintenance duties to ensure a hygienic working environment
Qualifications:
- Proven experience working in a kitchen environment, preferably as a Commis Chef or similar entry-level culinary role
- Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices, with understanding of relevant regulations
- Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately and consistently
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues
- Physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods whilst performing repetitive tasks
- Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation
- Familiarity with kitchen equipment and food preparation techniques
- Desirable: Food handling or food safety certification
- Desirable: Understanding of dietary requirements and allergen awareness
- Desirable: Experience working within a contract catering or hospitality environment
