About the role

We are looking for a motivated and experienced Kitchen Porter Supervisor to join the catering team at Charterhouse. You will supervise a small team of kitchen porters while also fulfilling essential tasks within our department, helping to maintain the highest standards in food safety, health and safety practices, ensuring a quality service is delivered and upheld. You will lead the team with respect and be a positive role model, ensuring all standards are met and delivered in a timely and professional manner at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise day‑to‑day operations of the department, ensuring smooth service across both service areas.
  • Lead and motivate staff to maintain high service standards and client and manager satisfaction.
  • Handle manager queries, concerns, and feedback with professionalism and discretion.
  • Ensure the department maintains a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
  • Support the management team in implementing policies and enhancing service offerings.
  • Oversee events and private functions as required.
  • Serve breakfast, lunch and dinner to our wonderful students, staff and guests 7 days a week and look after all other needs that arise across the campus.
  • Operate as a Store Porter/Driver to fulfil duties and meet the needs of our clients by delivering exceptional service.
  • Planning social events throughout the year, with approximately every third weekend off.
  • Maintain a flexible working approach, as this is a five‑out‑seven‑day position, 40 working hours per week.
  • Have a full driving licence and use of your own vehicle advantageous due to public transport links and timings not aligned.

We are closed over the Christmas and New Year period, allowing additional family time. Free meals while on duty, full uniform is provided, and access to the onsite gym at a very reduced cost (as little as £5 per month after probation). Free car parking, 28 days holiday inclusive of bank holidays (we have every long weekend off). Pension scheme and career development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience supervising a team, be it back‑of‑house or front‑of‑house.
  • Professional and friendly disposition.
  • Flexible and can‑do approach to work.

Additional duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Supervising a small team of Kitchen Porters to ensure high standards are met at all times.
  • Supporting daily catering operations by upholding all company and legal food hygiene and health & safety practices.
  • Ensuring all kitchen and back‑of‑house areas are cleaned in line with company specifications and documented within our sign‑offs.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Previous experience in a similar supervisory or kitchen porter role.
  • A good understanding of food hygiene and health & safety practices.
  • Proven organisational and good communication skills with the ability to lead and motivate a team effectively.

You must:

  • Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and a positive attitude at all times.
  • Be committed to maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards.
  • Be able to work flexibly to meet the business needs and always have a can‑do approach.
