We are looking for an enthusiastic Apprentice Chef to join our Holroyd Howe team at Stowe School. This is a fantastic opportunity to start a culinary career, learning everything from food preparation to high-quality presentation. Due to the location of Stowe School, candidates must ideally have their own mode of transport or be able to travel reliably.
Job Description
As an Apprentice Pastry Chef, you will gain hands-on experience in a professional kitchen while working towards a qualification. Under the guidance of experienced Holroyd Howe chefs, you will learn essential skills, including:
- Food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and presentation skills
- Working efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Understanding and maintaining food hygiene, safety, and allergen regulations
- Assisting in the production of high-quality meals for students, staff, and special events
- Learning how to work with fresh, seasonal ingredients to create healthy and delicious dishes
- Supporting stock control, ordering, and kitchen organisation
Qualifications
Essential:
- A keen interest in cooking and professional catering
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above preferred) – if not already achieved, support will be provided to complete these as part of the apprenticeship
- A willingness to learn and work towards a Level 2 Commis Chef Apprenticeship
- A strong work ethic, enthusiasm, and commitment to training
Desirable:
- Previous kitchen experience (not essential, but beneficial)
- A Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (if not held, training will be provided)
- Knowledge of food safety, allergens, and hygiene standards
