Overview

To provide high‑quality analytical and strategic support across WRU’s procurement activity, enabling value‑driven decision making, supplier performance insight, and effective sourcing and contracting in support of WRU’s long‑term procurement transformation and cost efficiency goals.

Hours of work

35 hours per week. Monday to Friday. Our working hours are generally 9am‑5pm but our approach to hybrid working – “Team Tactics” means you can flex your hours and attendance in the office to support a sustainable work‑life balance.

The Person – Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Experience of working in a procurement commercial or finance related role
  • Experience of data analysis, cost breakdowns or supplier assessment with strong analytical and data interpretation skills
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of supplier economics
  • Exposure to tendering processes, contract analysis or supplier engagement
  • Experience of supporting or leading small projects
  • Excellent Excel and data modelling ability
  • Confident communicator with strong written and verbal presentation skills
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Collaborative and proactive approach to working with cross‑functional teams
  • Detail‑oriented with strong critical thinking ability
  • Self‑starter, motivated to take ownership of tasks and follow through
  • Calm under pressure, able to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship‑building skills
  • Ability to communicate and work through the medium of Welsh is desirable

The Role – Key responsibilities, tasks and activities

  • Deliver meaningful supplier and market analysis to support strategic sourcing and procurement strategy development.
  • Develop and maintain cost models and pricing analysis to support robust commercial decision‑making across all spend categories.
  • Plan, coordinate and support RFP/RFQ activity, ensuring a structured and data‑led sourcing process aligned with WRU goals.
  • Support and participate in supplier negotiations, including preparation of negotiation strategy, value tracking and post‑negotiation analysis.
  • Collaborate with category leads and key stakeholders to ensure procurement activity is aligned with operational needs, budget constraints, and long‑term planning.
  • Support implementation of supplier performance tracking and KPIs, contributing to continuous improvement and contract value realisation.
  • Act as a proactive, collaborative member of the procurement function, contributing to a culture of excellence, professionalism, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Carry out duties in support of the WRU Group Strategic Mission, Purpose and Values.

WRU Requirements

The WRU require that individuals are proficient in IT skills, specifically Microsoft packages. Excellent written and verbal communications are essential, along with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh and a Valid UK Driver\'s Licence is desirable.
