The Director of Content is responsible for the content strategy across all WRU channels focused on enhancing fan engagement and driving revenue. The role will lead a centre of excellence for video, moving imagery and social media, to be deployed across the whole organisation.

The Person

  • Proven ability to lead a high performing content production team at the cutting edge of the content industry
  • Deep understanding of digital platform distribution dynamics and trends
  • Demonstrable creative skills to tell digital stories in all formats (short form, live, VOD)
  • Excellent IT skills, specifically Microsoft package
  • A strategic thinker with an eye for detail
  • Creative mindset with strong integrity and judgement
  • Data driven and insight-led approach
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management
  • Ability to communicate and work through the medium of Welsh is desirable

The Role

  • Define an innovative content strategy for the WRU covering all digital platforms
  • Build, manage and lead a team of high-performance videographers and social media managers
  • Define ambitious targets to engage users and champion a user-led approach
  • Identify commercial opportunities for direct and indirect revenue
  • Drive the WRU’s strategy and use of GenAI and contribute to optimisations through AI
  • Lead a team of content specialists fostering a culture of creativity and continuous improvement through emerging trends and technologies
  • Work across departments to identify great rugby stories (community, stadium…) and define the optimal distribution strategy, aligning content to broader organisational needs
  • Identify ways of collaborating with and supporting regional clubs and SRC clubs to tell their stories
  • Build an influencer network to amplify the messages and commercial opportunities of the WRU
  • Train and support professional athletes in their use of social media
  • Collaborate with the data team to optimise content based on insights
  • Evaluate the opportunities to maximise professional video content (Six Nations, World Rugby, URC) on WRU platforms
  • Carry out duties in support of the WRU Group Strategic Mission, Purpose and Values

WRU Requirements

  • The WRU require that individuals are proficient in IT skills, specifically Microsoft packages
  • Excellent written and verbal communications are essential, along with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh and a Valid UK Driver's License is desirable
  • This role is subject to a basic/enhanced DBS check
