Why this role matters
The Customer Engagement Platform (CEP) sits at the heart of how Skipton connects with its members and empowers its colleagues. It underpins Dynamics 365 CRM, Power Platform (Power Apps & Power Automate), case management, workflow orchestration, marketing automation, and colleague-facing tools.
As a Principal Engineer, you’ll define engineering standards, paved roads and platform strategy—helping teams deliver fast, safe, frequent change at scale.
The opportunity
- Set the technical direction
- Define the Golden Path for CEP, including policy-as-code CI/CD and progressive delivery patterns
- Standardise ALM practices across Dynamics 365 and Power Platform
- Establish reusable architecture patterns
- Engineer for performance, reliability and flow
- Improve lead time, deployment frequency, change failure rate and MTTR
- Embed observability, SLOs and error budgets
- Modernise the platform
- Lead decoupling, tech debt reduction and resilience improvements
- Define platform boundaries and contracts
- Enable teams through paved roads
- Create reusable pipelines, connectors, event schemas and blueprints
- Lead and grow capability
- Coach and mentor engineers
- Lead Communities of Practice
What we’re looking for
- Deep expertise in Dynamics 365 and Power Platform
- Strong ALM and CI/CD experience
- Proven ability to improve delivery performance

Where you'll work
Hybrid, based at newly refurbished, collaborative head office in North Yorkshire. The business works to anchor days (so on-site time is purposeful collaboration, not attendance for its own sake), with flexibility around start and finish times. Three days a week on-site, with Tuesday as a likely fixed anchor.
