The Job Summary:

Wrightbus is the fastest growing production company in Europe. We are recruiting for a highly skilled High Voltage Specialist to provide expert knowledge and technical support in the design, development, testing, and maintenance of high voltage systems in zero-emission buses. The HV Specialist will ensure that all high voltage components and systems meet safety, reliability, and regulatory standards and will support cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality vehicles. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the HV design of projects is best practice, safe and act as the authority on HV Electrical Engineering Design.

The Role:

  • Lead the integration and design of high voltage (HV) electrical systems, ensuring adherence to regulatory and safety standards.
  • Support cross-functional teams throughout concept development, prototyping, testing, and new vehicle launch phases.
  • Specify and select high-voltage components such as batteries, converters, inverters, and HV connectors.
  • Develop the HV system architecture, encompassing electrical schematics, harnessing, fusing, and interlocks.
  • Ensure systems meet functional safety standards including ISO 26262 and ISO 6469.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers to deliver validated high-voltage solutions.
  • Define test procedures for HV systems and lead their validation and testing.
  • Document and validate FMEA, hazard analyses, and risk assessments for HV systems.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on high-voltage systems, offering guidance to engineering and service teams.
  • Participate in technical reviews and contribute to product roadmaps and future HV technologies.
  • Approve HV system designs in accordance with Wrightbus Engineering Standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Contribute to both internal and external safety procedures.
  • Provide technical assistance to production teams, support engineers, and customers.
  • Deliver system technical documentation and information to internal and external stakeholders.

The Requirements:

  • BEng in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 5 years experience of integrating HV systems (400V-800V) into vehicle platforms (e.g., battery packs, inverters, electric motors) – automotive or transport sector.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience of HV cable rating, switching and fusing on vehicles – automotive or transport sector.
  • All relating to HV systems on vehicles:
  • Proven experience of HV circuit diagrams, HV contactors or relays and Integration of HV drive motors and inverters.
  • Demonstrable experience of HV safety and isolation procedures.
  • Experience working with HV cable sizing and HV
  • fuse sizing.
  • Experience in Design of HV junction boxes.
  • Relevant experience in HV Safety procedures.
  • Relevant experience in HV ancillary systems and DC-DC converters.
  • Problem solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Computer literate.
  • Previous experience of dedicated electrical design software (harnesses and Schematics) e.g., 2D CAD
