Job type: Permanent Location: Wrightbus Closing date: Monday 01 Sep 2025 08:00 The Job Summary: Wrightbus, a rapidly growing company, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer for their Body Engineering team. The role involves supporting daily production demands, developing the product portfolio, and identifying materials required for vehicle builds to meet customer specifications. Responsibilities also include planning and integrating vehicle body systems, hardware, component locations, and control systems into new and existing designs. The engineer will compile and distribute information within strict time constraints in line with the production schedule. The Role:Key Tasks: Work effectively within a cross-functional team in the overall vehicle development, ensuring that all components and systems are correctly integrated into the overall vehicle design. Responsible for the specification, selection and integration of components and systems into new and existing vehicle designs. Undertake the technical assessment and analysis of the options available from component to system level. Recommend the optimal solution that satisfies system requirements whilst meeting overall vehicle objectives. Develop and design product options in line with customer specifications. Investigate and source as necessary any requirement for new materials and technology. Produce Creo models and assemblies of vehicle components and systems. Produce engineering detail drawings in Creo which can be issued to manufacturing and suppliers. Work with suppliers and partners to ensure that components and sub-systems can be integrated together to achieve the overall vehicle objectives and performance. Co-ordinate with the assembly and manufacturing teams to ensure that the Body design is clearly defined and controlled. Manage the definition, execution and successful completion of verification and validation plans against specified requirements. Support the NPD Strategy for EV, FCEV and HEV vehicles and systems. Provide system technical information and documentation for both internal and external customers. Document, validate and provide FMEA information and analysis for design reviews and NPD gateways. Undertake the technical assessment and analysis of components and systems and develop optimal solutions to meet overall vehicle requirements. Provide Technical assistance to production, support engineers and the customer. Produce system layout drawings. Create Bills of Material, specifications and detailed designs Produce and manage component and systems specifications. Support prototype build, validation and product sign off. The Requirements: HND/HNC in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline or equivalent qualification. Experience of whole product CAD. Experience of design concept through to Manufacturing. Experience in New Product Development within an engineering environment. Knowledge of BOM structure. Knowledge of manufacturing processes. Problem solving abilities. Excellent communication skills. Computer literate. Experience with 3D & 2D CAD. Engineering report writing.
