Salary: Competitive salary (dependent upon experience)

Hours: 36.75 hour week (Monday to Thursday 8.00am to 4.30pm and Fri 8.00am to 12.45pm)

Company overview: The company has been designing, manufacturing and supplying engine test equipment since 1877. We produce dynamometer test solutions for our customers to ensure their engine test requirements are met, designed by our mechanical, electrical and software applications engineers. We have two manufacturing and support centres; in the USA and in Worcester UK. Our facilities manufacture the complete range of hydraulic, (water brakes) eddy current, and AC dynamometers as well as the Go Power line of portable engine dynamometers. In addition to our range of test cell solutions, the company offers dynamometer refurbishments, spares, repairs and maintenance contracts within our customer service plans. We are a globally respected manufacturer renowned for our innovation, engineering excellence, and deep industry heritage.

Role overview: Responsible for mechanical engineering design, product maintenance and application engineering of dynamometers, systems and components with innovation and excellence. The role focuses primarily on the company product line; translating customer requirements and internal initiatives into practical, cost-effective, and manufacturable design solutions, ensuring products meet performance, quality, safety, and regulatory standards while supporting continuous improvement and innovation within the company.

Key duties:

  • Product design & development: Contribute to the design, develop and testing of mechanical components and assemblies, using advanced engineering principles and tools. Collaborate with project teams to ensure that new product designs meet customer specifications and regulatory requirements. Produce and maintain detailed technical documentation, including specifications, drawings, operation manuals and build and test procedures. Setup components and bills of materials (BOMs) within Visibility.
  • Product maintenance: Refine existing product designs to improve performance, durability and manufacturability, leveraging emerging technologies, field data and commissioning, customer & sales feedback. Develop solutions for component and system faults identified throughout the product lifecycle. Analyse and address product documentation defects, ensuring all related documentation (drawings, manuals, test procedures etc.,) are up to date and accurate.
  • Application engineering: Design mechanical solutions tailored to customer needs, ensuring all designs meet functional and performance requirements.
  • Sales, manufacturing, commissioning & customer support: Collaborate with the sales team to help provide timely responses to customer queries. Provide technical support to the sales team throughout the sales process, offering insights into product capabilities and limitations. Assist in the preparation of proposals, ensuring technical accuracy and alignment with customer requirements. Support production build, installation and test of products. Support technically during installation and commissioning, offering guidance to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Professional development & collaboration: Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and/or participating in professional societies. Stay updated on technology, industry trends and engineering advancements, bringing new ideas for process optimization and product innovation. Work closely with other engineering team members, production, and field service personnel to ensure seamless execution of projects. Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Skill and experience requirements:

  • HNC/HND or qualified degree.
  • Preferably 5 years' proven working experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Working experience with product lifecycle management (PLM), finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
  • Hands-on experience with computer-aided engineering (CAM) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAE).
  • Expertise in Solidworks CAD software for design modelling, drawing generation and analysis.
  • Adequate knowledge of engineering analysis tools (ANSYS, ProMechanica or similar).
  • Mathematical computing and analysis tools knowledge (Matlab, Excel, LabView etc).
  • Solid understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science etc.
  • Creativity and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
