Our client, founded in 1860, continues to demonstrate a history of engineering excellence both in the UK and internationally. Working internationally from their Head Office in Barnsley, with around 140 employees and comprehensive design and manufacturing facilities, they provide an attractive 'one stop shop' for a multitude of engineering solutions. Their services include: Consultancy, Project management, Design, Manufacture and supply, Installation, Commissioning, Training and Service support.

Recent work includes the project engineering of major turnkey contracts encompassing Moving Bridges, Static Bridges, Ro-Ro Link Spans, Water control Gates & Barriers, Winches and Haulages, Nuclear Waste Handling (special projects involving robotics with fully integrated control systems) and other specially designed engineering requirements. They are also a major manufacturing operation covering Specialist Structures, Railway Rolling Stock Components, Nuclear Waste Storage Boxes and Architectural Steelwork. Qualter Hall has also retained its primary core business in the mining industry supplying Mine Shaft Systems, Mine Winders and Haulages and Underground Transportation Systems.

Due to their continued success they are now looking for a Mechanical Contract / Project Manager to play a lead role in the management of mechanical handling technology engineering projects.

Purpose Statement - The successful and effective leadership of projects associated with the mechanical handling function of prestigious turnkey engineering tenders and contracts.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Project management of mechanical handling design projects from tendering to commissioning.
  • Management and involvement with preparation of estimates and tenders and functional and technical design specifications.

Experience:

  • Customer facing experience.
  • Experience of managing technical / engineering personnel.
  • Experience of project and contract management.
  • Experience of estimating and tendering.
  • Experience & understanding of complex mechanical systems for large moving structures.
  • Experience with NEC Contract Conditions.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Qualified to minimum HNC in mechanical engineering.
  • A proven track record in managing complex mechanical engineering projects.
  • Preferably with knowledge and demonstrable background in the design and application of mechanical handling systems across a diverse range of large turnkey engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of current statutory legislation.
  • Computer literate, confident in working with Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Microsoft Project.
  • Presentation & written communication.
  • Effective liaison with external bodies.
  • Effective record keeping.
  • Man Manager & Effective Communicator.
  • Understanding and implementation of the requirements for the European Machinery Directive.
