Wright Engineering are recruiting for a Design Engineer Manager to join our clients drafting and detailing team and ensure the successful delivery of engineering projects.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and manage the Drawing Office team, ensuring high-quality and error-free drawings.
- Coordinate resources, workloads, and timescales to meet project deadlines and milestones.
- Act as the central contact for Project Managers, supporting design changes and early planning.
- Work closely with the Workshop Manager to ensure smooth and timely drawing handovers.
- Run Kick-Off Meetings, Technical Reviews, and weekly DO meetings to track progress and resolve issues.
- Review and approve drawings to ensure compliance with company standards and UKCA/legislative requirements.
- Maintain and improve drawing office processes, quality standards, and document control.
- Monitor commercial aspects, including variations, drawing hours, and specification changes.
- Support team development, training, performance management, and recruitment.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience managing a drawing office or design team in an engineering environment.
- Strong technical background in drafting, detailing, or engineering (materials handling experience a plus).
- Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Understanding of UKCA marking, Design Risk Assessments, and workshop/site operations (or willingness to learn).
- Strong commercial awareness and ability to manage budgets and variations.
- Proficiency with Tekla Structures and Trimble Connect software essential.
