Our client is currently looking for an experienced Design Engineering Manager to lead their drafting and detailing team, drive quality and ensure the successful delivery of engineering projects.

Salary: Competitive pay - dependant on experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Drawing Office team, ensuring high-quality and error-free drawings.
  • Coordinate resources, workloads, and timescales to meet project deadlines and milestones.
  • Act as the central contact for Project Managers, supporting design changes and early planning.
  • Work closely with the Workshop Manager to ensure smooth and timely drawing handovers.
  • Run Kick-Off Meetings, Technical Reviews, and weekly DO meetings to track progress and resolve issues.
  • Review and approve drawings to ensure compliance with company standards and UKCA/legislative requirements.
  • Maintain and improve drawing office processes, quality standards, and document control.
  • Monitor commercial aspects, including variations, drawing hours, and specification changes.
  • Support team development, training, performance management, and recruitment.

Qualifications:

  • Experience managing a drawing office or design team in an engineering environment.
  • Strong technical background in drafting, detailing, or engineering (materials handling experience a plus).
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Understanding of UKCA marking, Design Risk Assessments, and workshop/site operations (or willingness to learn).
  • Strong commercial awareness and ability to manage budgets and variations.
  • Proficiency with Tekla Structures and Trimble Connect software essential.
