Overview
The North East Wales Emergency Duty Team (NEWEDT) provides crisis intervention and support outside normal office hours. Sessional Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs) and Sessional Experienced Social Workers coordinate crisis interventions to ensure the best outcomes for children and adults until daytime colleagues can take over. The team works closely with agencies such as Police, A&E, North Wales Ambulance Service and GPs, and accepts referrals directly from service users and carers. The NEWEDT covers Flintshire, Wrexham and Denbighshire, offering opportunities to work with diverse demographics in both rural and urban settings. The shift pattern offers flexibility, with staffing levels varying at peak and quieter times.
The post includes two role tracks: Sessional AMHP and Sessional Experienced Social Worker, with respective salary bands and sessional hours.
Responsibilities
- Act as the first point of contact for people in crisis outside of normal office hours and coordinate crisis interventions.
- Collaborate with multi-agency partners (Police, A&E, North Wales Ambulance Service, GPs) to ensure safe and effective outcomes.
- Handle referrals from service users and carers; cover all areas and service user groups (children and adults at risk, foster placement breakdowns, vulnerable adults in police custody, people experiencing mental health crisis, and older adults requiring services to stay well and safe).
- Work as part of a team of EDT staff from diverse backgrounds, with robust support from colleagues and Managers within the Service.
- Maintain flexibility in shift patterns as one of four staff on duty at peak times or one of two at less busy times.
Qualifications and requirements
- Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) or Experienced Social Worker (desirable for AMHP or experienced child protection Social Worker).
- Be enthusiastic, imaginative, and creative in problem solving; able to work in a fast-paced out-of-hours environment.
- subject to an enhanced DBS check.
- Ability to work bilingually in English and Welsh is welcomed; applications in Welsh will be treated equally to those in English.
