A self-motivated and enthusiastic individual is sought to join a small team in providing specialised support to a young man with autism spectrum disorder. Candidates must be happy to engage in a variety of activities, interact with this young man, and enjoy working with young people, demonstrating reliability.
Within a team, the successful candidate will provide the young man with opportunities to learn and develop self-help, leisure, social, and communication skills across a variety of activities and in different settings. The position also requires the ability to accurately record data on a daily basis and a willingness to engage fully in all training offered, including training in the method known as Spelling to Communicate.
A good standard of education and excellent communication skills are essential for this post. Good passes at GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths are both essential.
Candidates must be able to work in the young man's home alongside other team members and be able to work in the community environment. They must have the ability to travel, and access to their own vehicle for occasional use during working hours with a full, clean driving license would be an advantage. The position will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
With this in mind, the successful candidate will receive generous rates of pay on contracted hours, increasing as skills are acquired over a probationary and training period.
Summary of Duties:
- Support the individual who is to be supported to access activities they enjoy.
- To be able to support in a personal centred way.
- To work with the individual to help them communicate and navigate social situations.
- To support and maintain independence within the home as well as out in the community.
What will be expected from the Employer?
- Training and learning opportunities available
- 5.6 weeks rota of AL per year

- Flexible shifts
Hours Required: 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday) then 32 hours per week (Tuesday to Friday) on a 2-week cycle.
Hourly Rate: Starting Pay rate: £11.50 ph increasing up to £12.30 ph when fully trained.
Please note that you will be working directly for the Employer or the Employer who is supporting the Citizen to manage the Direct Payment. An Enhanced DBS check will be required for this role; if you have a transferable DBS check, please make this known on your application form.
Training will be tailored to the citizen's needs. Please note the Employer will arrange this for you if the job is offered and accepted.
