The Role

The Press Officer will play a key role in delivering Wrexham AFC’s communications strategy, overseeing day‑to‑day media relations, press activity and content production to ensure the Club is promoted professionally, consistently and positively across all platforms.

Working closely with the First Team and Media team, the successful candidate will play a key role in managing the Club's media relations and communications activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting and protecting the Club's reputation, securing positive media coverage, supporting matchday media operations, and delivering high-quality communications across all Club channels.

Main Responsibilities

• Champion Wrexham AFC through professional, engaging and accurate communications that reflect the Club’s values, ambitions and growing global profile.
• Organise and support press conferences, media briefings, interviews and appearances involving players and management team, in line with both the Club’s needs and relevant competition regulations.
• Assist with the Club’s matchday media operations, ensuring timely and engaging coverage across all official channels, including team news, interviews and post‑match content.
• Create and distribute high‑quality press releases, media statements, briefing notes and other communications materials.
• Manage incoming media enquiries and coordinate interview opportunities with players, coaching staff and Club officials.
• Support the Head of Media and Communications in developing and maintaining positive relationships with local, national and international media outlets, while responding to press requests in a professional and timely manner.
• Build and maintain effective working relationships with EFL and FA officials, broadcasters, journalists, governing bodies, commercial partners and fellow football clubs.
• Ensure all external communications are accurate, consistent and aligned with Wrexham AFC’s brand identity, tone of voice and strategic objectives.
• Help to manage internal communications at the Football Club, ensuring all departments are kept informed of relevant updates.
• Work with the Head of Media and Communications and other Club departments to start to implement policies and processes, and support changes to infrastructure, in line with the Premier League’s Section K guidelines.

About You

You’ll have

• Experience working within professional football or elite sport.
• Excellent understanding of the importance of branding.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and work effectively under pressure.
• A keen interest in football and an understanding of the football industry.
• Ability to travel across the Club’s sites in line with the job’s requirements, and to travel to all men’s first-team matches.

Experience and Qualifications required

• Previous experience in a press officer, media relations, communications or public relations role.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong understanding of the media landscape and sports journalism.
• Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Experience writing press releases, media briefings and public communications.
• Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings, weekends and matchdays.
